Europe Returnee Jailed 13 Years For Kidnapping

An Asaba High Court in Delta State, yesterday, sentenced a Europe returnee, Ifeanyi Johnson 31, to 13years imprisonment with hard Labour for kidnapping and other related acts.

Prosecution of criminal cases including kidnapping by the state government has continued to yield more results as no fewer than 13 kidnappers have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment in the last two months.

The trial judge, Justice Cletus Emefinoye, convicted Ifeanyi Johnson on three count charges of conspiracy to commit kidnapping contrary to section 364 and demanding with menace the sum of N7million as ransom for the release of their victim, Tobechukwu, who was abducted on March 18, 2012, from a church during worship, an offence punishable under section 416 of the code.

He was sentenced to three years imprisonment for count one, seven years for count two and another three years for count three all with hard labour. The prison terms will run concurrently.

The court also ordered the immediate return of the sum of N550, 000 which was part of the N1million ransom recovered from the kidnapper(s) for onward transfer to the father of the little boy.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that Ifeanyi had been standing trial alongside one Chijioke Okeke earlier sentenced to nine years imprisonment with hard labour penultimate week by the same court having pleaded guilty to the three count charge preferred against him.

However, family sources said Ifeanyi was barely few weeks old in Nigeria after he was repatriated from Europe for sundry offences.

Meanwhile, a ghastly motor accident which occurred along Ogwashi-uku road on Sunday night claimed the lives of two youths.
