Mum facing death sentence for smuggling £1.6m cocaine claims she was forced into it

An expert will offer her trial “compelling evidence” she felt she had no choice because of threats   to kill her children

A mum facing a firing squad for smuggling cocaine worth £1.6million was forced into it by crooks who threatened to kill her children, it was claimed yesterday.
Briton Lindsay Sandiford, 56, was caught with four kilos at an airport in Bali after travelling from Thailand.
But an expert will offer her trial “compelling evidence” she felt she had no choice because of the threats.
Dr Jennifer Fleetwood, a specialist on women’s involvement in drugs, says in a defence report that Sandiford was “vulnerable” with “mental health issues”.
She adds: “This may have unfortunately made her an attractive target for threats, manipulation and coercion.”
Harriet McCullogh, an investigator for legal charity Reprieve, said: “This report demonstrates she was exploited by drug barons.”
Sandiford, from Redcar, Cleveland, faces drug charges with Brits Paul Beales, Julian Ponder and Rachel Dougall.
