Boko Haram Fawehinmi, Keyamo, Others List Conditions For Amnesty


Two human rights activists on Sunday gave conditions for granting of amnesty to members of the Boko Haram sect while two political groups advised against granting amnesty to the terrorist group.

The lawyers, Mr Festus Keyamo and Mr Mohammed Fawehinmi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that some conditions must be met before amnesty would be granted to the Boko Haram members.

The duo said that amnesty could only be granted, if the sect members could unveil their identities and come forward for negotiation with the Federal Government.

A 53-year-old grandmother, Sikirat Giwa, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while trying to smuggle out cocaine under her hair weave.

Giwa was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Saturday with 1kg of white powdery, which later tested positive to cocaine.

The suspect was apprehended while trying to board an Ethiopian airline Flight ET 910 to Pakistan enroute Addis Ababa and Dubai.

NDLEA Abuja Airport commander, Mr. Hamisu Lawan said that the suspect was arrested during routine check.

The lucky couple are also to travel in the luxury of the company of 29 delegates from Akwa Ibom to the United Arab Emirate, UAE, courtesy of the governor, who also promised to throw the state’s treasury open to bankroll an all-expense paid trip for the white wedding scheduled for March 23 in Dubai.

Nigeria Islamist Group Says Has Executed Seven Foreign Hostages-REUTERS


(Reuters) - Nigeria-based Islamist group Ansaru said on Saturday it had killed seven foreign hostages it seized on February 7 from a construction company in Nigeria, SITE Monitoring Service said.

The group issued a statement in Arabic and English on an affiliate of the Sinam al-Islam network accompanied by screen shots of a video purporting to show the dead hostages, SITE said. One screenshot showed a man with gun standing above several prone figures lying on the ground.

Ansaru, which has kidnapped other foreigners in the past, had blasted into the compound using explosives and abducted a Briton, an Italian, a Greek and four Lebanese workers, the largest number of foreigners kidnapped in the mostly Muslim north since an insurgency by Islamist militants intensified two years ago.
